Coffee was first discovered in Ethiopia, Northern Africa. Coffee berries were transported from Ethiopia to the Arabian peninsula, and were first cultivated in what today is the country of Yemen. From there, coffee traveled to Turkey and all over the world.
Today, coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world. Indonesia is the fourth largest coffee producer in the world behind Brazil, Vietnam, and Columbia. Indonesia’s coffee is well known for its complexity and characteristic that specifically owned by this region.
There are two common type of coffee:
- Coffee Arabica
- Coffee Canephora or Robusta
The coffee originated from Ethiopia and Yemen and accounts for more than 70% of the world’s coffee trade. Arabica coffee grows at higher altitude about 1000 to 2000 m above sea level. Generally, the higher the altitudes, the harder the beans, and the better the quality. Arabica coffee has a wider aroma and taste.
Robusta has its origin in Africa and Brazil. It grows at lower altitudes near sea level and requires little rain fall. The plant produce more fruit and less susceptible to disease that leads to lower production cost. The aroma and the taste of Robusta is more neutral than Arabica Coffee. Robusta coffee has higher caffeine compared to Arabica.

We have direct relationship with plantation owners from every region to ensure the availability to supply different type of coffees, to control the quality of our product, and to provide price competitiveness for our customers.
Sumatran coffee beans are some of the heaviest, smoothest, and most complex coffees in the world. Most of the coffees from Sumatra are dry-processed, but some are semi-washed. The majority of Sumatran coffee is marked Mandheling or Lintong and is grown inland from the southern coast. Sumatra coffee grown farther west is usually marked Gayo Mountain. Sumatra Gayo coffee is described as sweet and clean.
Coffee connoisseurs who want to buy Sumatran coffee typically look for aged Sumatran green coffee beans. These coffee beans enhance the earthy and spicy notes of regular Sumatran coffee, making it one of the most sought after coffees available.

Dry (left) and Drywash (right) Sumatra Coffee
Java coffee is known for its fully wet processed. It has a low acidity with limited amount of earthy flavor. Java coffee is typically used as a blender with different type of coffee due to its typical flat taste. An experience roaster can bring out the uniqueness aroma and taste of Java coffee.
Most java coffee comes from east java. Many of the old farms have vanished when coffee price hits all time low. Now the Indonesian Government is trying to revive this sector in Java.

Sulawesi coffees are low-acid with great body and that deep, brooding cup profile. The coffee formerly known as Celebes Kalossi . Kalossi was the colonial Dutch name for the Toraja the southern region of the island , an incredible densely forested area of Sulawesi.
The deep, rich body and flavor of our Sulawesi Toraja (Celebes Kalossi) rivals the best Sumatran coffees. The deep-toned flavors and maple-syrupy body sets it apart, and results in a stunning, clearer taste.

Sulawesi Coffee
Papua New Guinea coffee, often abbreviated PNG, occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea. Papua New Guinea estate coffees range from pleasant to splendid, at best displaying the authority of a high-grown coffee together with the transparency of a carefully wet-processed coffee while retaining the fragrant, low-key luxuriousness characteristic of all coffees of the Malay Archipelago.
Papua New Guinea small-holder coffees often are certified organically grown.

PNG Coffee
By 1900 Robusta coffee was introduced to Indonesia in order to combat coffee leaf rust. At that moment the disease severely attacked Arabica coffee and significantly reduced yield.
Nowadays the total area of coffee planting in Indonesia has reached 1.1 million ha, and 84% of which is Robusta coffee. The main Robusta coffee producing areas (42%) are South Sumatera, Lampung, and Bengkulu provinces. Robusta coffee has been also widely grown at high altitude.
Although most robusta coffee is of a lower grade and inferior to Arabica, there is a premium crop that is the top of the line for robusta beans. Premium robusta is primarily used in specialty espresso blends, and is never found in canned coffee. Though it only constitutes 5-15% of the blend, it is used because these beans add body to the taste and make a nice creama in the shot of espresso. This additional body distinguishes the blend in a cappuccino or latte.

Robusta Coffee
Kopi Luwak or Civet Coffee comes from the Indonesian island of Sumatra, an area well-known for its excellent coffee. Also native to the area is a small civit-like animal called luwak. These little mammals live in the trees and one of their favorite foods is the red, ripe coffee cherry. They eat the cherries, bean and all. While the bean is in the little guy's stomach, it undergoes chemical treatments and fermentations. The bean finishes its journey through the digestive system, and exits. The still-intact beans are collected from the forest floor, and are cleaned, then roasted and ground just like any other coffee.
The coffee has a rich, heavy flavour with hints of caramel or chocolate. Other terms used to describe it are earthy, musty and exotic. The body is almost syrupy and it's very smooth.
There isn't much Kopi Luwak produced in the world. The average total annual production is only around 500 pounds of beans. Due to its limited amount and high price, our minimum order for this type of coffee is only 1 kg or 2.2 lbs. We always suggest our customer to order in the amount of 5 kg or 11 lbs to minimize shipping cost. This coffee will be sent with air freight delivery this directly from Indonesia and to your address.

Roasting coffee transforms the chemical and physical properties of green coffee beans into roasted coffee products. The roasting process is what produces the characteristic flavor of coffee by causing the green coffee beans to expand and to change in color, taste, smell, and density. Different people have different preference roasting level. The table below indicates common roasting levels:

Grades of coffee roasting; from left: unroasted (or "green"), light, cinnamon, medium, high, city, full city, Italian, and French
To ensure consistency in our cupping, we utilize Specialty Coffee Association of America cupping protocols, which include the following key elements:
- 8 g (measured) coffee
- 5 ounces water
- Grind: medium (comparable to drip brewer)
- Water: clean, filtered (NOT softened)
- Water Temperature (Measured): 195°-205°
- steep time: 4 minutes
